Traditionally, dried orange slices strung together to decorate the home or tree during the holidays are a representation of the sun and the returning light or when the days begin to grow longer after the winter solstice.
I only had one orange in my fridge and a whole bunch of grapefruits….so we’ve got an orange and grapefruit garland!
I actually love the pop of colour that the combination gives to our mantle decor and oh my goodness were they easy to dehydrate! Just follow these easy steps:
- The key is long and low! I set my oven to 175°F.
- Slice your citrus
- Pat dry(ish) with a paper towel
- Spread out on a baking sheet, lined with parchment paper
- Mine were in the oven for close to 6 hours. Some smaller, thinner pieces, dried quicker so take a look around the 4 hour mark.
- Naturally, many of the citrus slices form holes, which are perfect for stinging them.
- Knot them 2-3 inches apart and hang.

My husband also said the dried fruit would be a great garnish in a holiday cocktail….I guess I know what my next post will be about.
